Berry finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Berry finished seventh in Class 1A region five with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 419 points last season. Berry was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Wildcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.4 points a game. Berry struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 41.9 points a game. The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Berry has gone a combined 79-68. Their 53.7% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Berry has managed to compile a record of 144-130. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 1A and 160th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Hunter Mims who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 4-16 over the past two seasons at Berry. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Mims. The Wildcats will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. After just 2 wins last year, Berry will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Wildcats open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Curry on Friday, September 1 at Fred Webster Stadium. Last year the Curry Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in eighth place in Class 4A region five. Berry and Curry have met a total of 6 times on the football field.
